Memorial Day 2010
05/31/10
I was able to attend the Memorial Day services at the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery south of Mandan today. It's always moving to take a special day to honor those who serve on our behalf, although naturally we should be so mindful all year long.
I have a lot of photos of co -
Once again, here's a ROCK that's more patriotic than Earl Pomeroy
05/28/10
This enormous rock, about five feet tall and parked in a very remote location outside of Bismarck, has more patriotism than the American left. The owner of the land on which it sits, I presume, has adorned it with an American flag, the names of some North Dakota soldiers killed in the globa -
How many more 8-megapixel sunsets?
05/27/10
Finally, some nice sunset weather has set in - although the weekend is still forecast to be cloudy and/or cold. I did, however, get the opportunity to go out and play at sunset with my camera a few days ago and nab this gorgeous sunset photo just outside of town. As usual, my faithful Canon -
North Dakota featured in new movie viral campaign
05/25/10
Thanks to the guys at /film for pointing this out, because it's actually a pretty cool little "viral marketing" campaign for an upcoming movie. This one just happens to feature North Dakota. It all started with this movie teaser trailer:
At the end of the trai -
See a difference between these two men?

"No one more sincerely wishes the spread of information among mankind than I do, and none has greater confidence in its effect towards supporting free and good government." --Thomas Jefferson
"...information becomes a distraction, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool -

The official press release says it as well as I can:

Union operative's letter to GF Herald gets treated like an average reader's...but who does he represent in ND? NOBODY
05/17/10
Click the image for full size version (in a popup window)
My buddy Rob over at the Say Anything Blog pointed out that, while every letter he writes to the Grand Forks Herald comes with a disclaimer that he runs a conservative website and talk show, union shill Ryan Nagle gets specia -
New feature activated: Categories
05/17/10
It's hard to scroll through pages and pages and pages of posts, and I think that many of my early photos are as good as or better than some of my recent ones...so by grouping them into categories I have made browsing a little bit easier. The links to them are in the panel to the right, a -
55,000!
05/15/10
I took some time this week to run to the Heritage Center with my little toddlers. First stop: the balcony overlooking the exhibits, where they can hit the button to activate the sound of geese flying overhead. This has been part of the Heritage Center visit tradition since I was a boy.

To understand the socialist tendencies of North Dakota democrats, just visit the Heritage Center
05/12/10
In the political portion of the North Dakota Heritage Center is an interesting display devoted to the Democrat-NPL political party. I never refer to Democrats as "Democratic" because the ideology to which they're enslaved is the very antithesis of that. There are some interest -
My boys have the sweetest Mommy ever
05/09/10
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. --Psalm 31:28
I just want to take a minute to brag on my beautiful wife, the sweet Mommy of my two little blond-haired miracles. She's a selfless, caring girl who I could not live without. I m -
I wunder if spelling is on the kerickyewlum (and a graveyard experience of a different sort)
05/08/10
I'll admit it: I have a disorder. If I'm handed a sheet of paper filled with text, the typographical and spelling errors will typically leap off the paper, grab my me by the ears, and divert my attention toward themselves. It's like putting on a pair of 3D glasses. It's -
Monumental shot
05/06/10
Bismarck and Mandan each have their own memorials at their end of the new Liberty Memorial Bridge. There are more attractions to this area yet to come! Keep a keen eye under the bridge on the Bismarck side. I'm not sure what may be planned on the Mandan side...hopefully a complementary -
Spring showers
05/05/10
I love the fact that color is slowly returning to the Bismarck-Mandan area! Sometimes it takes a little rain to make those colors appear. -
Health Care Town Hall and the scariest graphic of the week
05/04/10
Michael Tanner, a Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute, presented at the North Dakota Policy Council's town hall meeting on health care last week. I've seen Mr. Tanner speak before and was excited to see his return. Sadly, this time around he's talking about a health care takeo -
At one time, I was that little Vietnamese girl
05/02/10
Last month I had the pleasure of meeting a missionary to Vietnam who works with orphaned children. A story he related while preaching at our church was the absolute perfect picture of my life, and I felt moved to share it.
One of the orphans he worked with, along with her sister, -
Test Drive Thursday
05/01/10
Thursday I was able to hang out with my friend Ken for a while and enjoy a brief photography trip. The cherry on top is that Ken let me test drive his new Canon 7D digital camera, the very one I hope to get later this Spring! Needless to say, I was very excited.
We set our s
