      • One of the world's biggest lies is posted near 3rd & Rosser
        06/30/10

I suppose it's appropriate to have a whopper like this near the offices of professionals like Earl Pomeroy, Byron Dorgan, and Kent Conrad. This billboard is part of an orchestrated campaign to fool people into supporting "The American Power Act" - by not letting you know that i

      • A dash to one of my favorite local sunset nooks
        06/30/10

Bismarck and Mandan have plenty of cool places from which you can observe and photograph our wide open skies. Last night I took the opportunity to bolt over to one of them, a secret little spot out in the middle of nowhere. I had to be careful because the recent rains could have turned it in

Keeping its tradition of expecting special treatment at the expense of others, the Downtown Business Association of Bismarck has put it out on the World Wide Web for everyone to see. Here's a quote from their Facebook page:

      • Barnstorming our cities through Tuesday
        06/27/10

The American Barnstormers Tour flew into town today and made quite a popular appearance at the Bismarck Airport. I showed up just after noon and the place was crawling with enthusiastic patrons.

Not only were there plenty of vintage aircraft both on the tarmac and in th

      • Washington Times catches up with me on Earl Pomeroy's ties to Big Labor
        06/27/10

I'm up to here in filthy Labor Union money!

I've been decrying Earl Pomeroy's indebtedness to big labor unions for longer than I can remember. Just last week I posted about this, so scroll down if you missed it. Labor unions, which represent less than seven percent

      • 'Til the Storm Passes By
        06/26/10

Like the line in one of my favorite gospel hymns says, the storm in this photo has passed by. It's about to pound Wishek, if I recall. I was so sure, having checked the radar at 4:05pm, that Bismarck was gonna get pounded. Then the storm hooked a sharp right and proceeded to miss us al

      • Storm from behind
        06/25/10

You know you're getting pounded with serious thunderstorms when your friends send you pictures of them from MONTANA!

      • Earl Pomeroy once again votes AGAINST North Dakotans, FOR the labor unions that bankroll him
        06/24/10

Anyone see a trend here? The labor unions own Earl. He represents them, not you.

In an effort to silence political speech they don't want heard this November, the Democrats are ramming through legislation to stop organizations such as the grass-roots "TEA-Party" sty

      • Blue, green, and rust
        06/24/10

It's been a while since I posted YAWP (Yet Another Windmill Photo). I'll admit that I'm partial to them; in fact, they have their own category on this site! When I find one that's distinctive like this one I pay it particular attention. The colors of the day made it an e

      • Memorial Bridge Musings
        06/23/10

This was the sunset scene from the Memorial Bridge last night. It was a very colorful scene, especially from where I was standing. It wasn't the golden-hued blast I was anticipating, but definitely a nice bit of God's handiwork to appreciate.

This brought to mind the fac

      • Prairie dog "squee" (with bonus nom)
        06/21/10

I don't know how many of you are familiar with dailysquee.com, but if you aren't you really should be. I don't think you even need to be an "animal lover" like myself per se to be overwhelmed with cuteness on that site :) They have some of the cutest baby animal phot

      • Earl Pomeroy's office lying to, threatening North Dakota constituents and media...oh yeah, he's under investigation too
        06/18/10

"The BS is piled up this high around me, and I'm afraid North Dakotans are sick of it!"

Things are getting even more interesting for the hapless Earl Pomeroy, Democrat congressman from North Dakota. Not only is he trailing in the polls badly after his vote for Obamac

      • Elusive sunset view
        06/18/10

Views like this have been few and far between, it seems. This summer has been cloudy. cool, windy...not exactly what one would expect from June on the plains. I've made a trip or two to Double Ditch in vain already this year, and the short term forecast doesn't look good.

      • Odd convergence
        06/16/10

I was a little bummed tonight when clouds rolled in and blocked the sunset. I had envisioned a trip north, perhaps to Double Ditch, but soon realized that such a journey would be all for naught. As I nosed the truck eastward on Highway 1804, however, I did see something worth a quick photo:

      • Buggies & Blues 2010
        06/15/10

The thing about Buggies and Blues is that there are so many cool cars, old and new, that it just doesn't work to try to feature them all. And while there are a lot of respectable classics in the show, I'm really there just to see the unique ones. Cars for the most part don't r

      • Pretty sharp, but I bet it's hard to pop a wheelie
        06/13/10

From my "There's something you don't see every day" department comes this photo of Dan on his late-1800s style bicycle! I spotted him while driving down River Road and knew I had to get a few shots.

Isn't this cool? It looks just like a blast back to

      • Wielding all that "clout and seniority," Conrad and Dorgan vote the Democrat party line against North Dakota interests (AGAIN)
        06/11/10

Those wacky North Dakota Democrats...they've gone and done it again. They postured themselves in the media as being for the Murkowski Amendment (PDF here), which would restrict the EPA from heavy-handedly going after any industry they felt generated too much carbon dioxide. In other wor

      • Got some new Gregs
        06/11/10

This year it seems like we've got more bunnies than ever before. I've got wire fencing around my wife's garden as usual. Let 'em eat weeds, which they seem content to do so far...although I'm keeping a watchful eye on the new raspberry bushes!

        It's be

      • Your message here, redux
        06/10/10

It may not be obvious from this angle, but this sign stands along busy Washington Street in north Bismarck. In fact, there's one tower hidden behind the pole and one just out of the frame to the right. Just over the hill is the Boulder Ridge housing development. Given all the unwanted

I attended a luncheon featuring Secretary of State Al Jaeger today, where he announced that his office has now given North Dakotans the ability to see all statewide election results as they are tabulated online. The site is: results.sos.nd.gov.

      • Primary Election Day. Here's a voter's guide and how to find your polling place & sample ballot
        06/08/10

Today's the day! Get out and vote. Once. :) All kidding aside, this is a very important day. I've encouraged people to find out all they can about the candidates, which is not necessarily easy in the case of local races. A friend sent me his "voter's guide" and be

      • Cannon in D...HD, thanks to my Canon
        06/05/10

As a video professional, I've watched with guarded optimism as digital SLR "still" cameras have begun to shoot HD video. While I admit the quality is amazing, it does have come with some caveats. Since this is my line of work I'm well equipped to deal with 'em.

      • How do you know who to vote for in local races? By the company they keep
        06/03/10

Selecting the right local candidate can be tricky. In many cases you don't know who people are or who they stand for, and advertising for local races doesn't typically involve a big media buy. So what do you do? Start doing some sleuthing.

        Take Josh Askvig, for example.

      • Corona
        06/01/10

As I was chatting it up with a guardsman at the Veterans Cemetery on Monday, I looked up to see a blazing ring around the sun. I took the opportunity to get a little artsy with the new camera, and this is the result.
