Career politician Earl Pomeroy makes a big deal out of Rick Berg's "26 YEARS" as part-time state legislator
I'm on vacation and got too long a nap, so I was up late with some spare time. I thought I'd put some observations on the hapless Pomeroy campaign into video for y'all. Enjoy. If you don't see playback controls above, move your cursor over the image and they'll appear at the bottom.
It's been a rough week for Earl Pomeroy. First his campaign gets caught trying to have an NDSU College Republicans display removed, which they have to hastily deny.
Then it comes out that Pomeroy's campaign has a stalker following Berg around and videotaping him. It's turned out to be pretty fun in that people can talk into the camera and finally feel as if they're getting a chance to talk to Earl Pomeroy, who isn't showing his face in public at all.
Really. Check it out, go to Pomeroy's site and click Upcoming Events. It says, "There is nothing I enjoy more about campaigning than getting around North Dakota to meet with the folks that I represent." Well, it's turning out to be a repeat of last year's August without a single open meeting between Earl Pomeroy and his constituents.
Pomeroy's been losing in the polls for months, consecutively, and all he has left is to get the labor unions and national Democrat donors to start running ads to scare the elderly and farmers. You can always expect the Democrats to pull out the decades-old ploy of how the Republican will take away their Social Security. What's hilarious is that Pomeroy's trying to imply that someone who's been in political office for a shorter time is the career politician. Really, Earl? Keep 'em coming.
(Is it any wonder that the New York Times says his campaign needs "political triage" at this point?)

A week or more ago I noticed that this sign had been put up in fron of the William Guy Federal Building on 3rd and Rosser. To the average citizen, even one who spends a LOT of time in this building like me, you'd never guess that there is anything going on inside aside from a new coat of that government-blue paint. But rest assured, this sign indicates that money (yours) is being spent.
Actually, I think this sign may have been required by the Obama regime, as this directive from America's Dictator (PDF format) states very clearly. If you don't want to load the PDF, I'll just quote the relevant section:
"All projects which are funded by the Recovery Act shall display signage that features the Primary Emblem throughout the construction phase. The signage should be displayed in a prominent location on site. Some exclusions may apply. The Primary Emblem should not be displayed at a size less than 6 inches in diameter."
Lest you neglect to turn all Hopey-Changey™ at the thought of your childrens' future being squandered, the name of Our Esteemed Leader features prominently at the top of the sign. According to this PDF from the government,
"Projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) will bear a newly-designed emblem. The emblem is a symbol of President Obama’s commitment to the American People to invest their tax dollars wisely to put Americans back to work." (emphasis is mine.)
Heaven forbid that federal dollars get shoveled at anything without credit being focused on Barack Hussein Obama! Well, Mister President, I have a suggestion for your sign, a few words it's missing (and they even left room for):
I think this says more about the project than all the rest of that sign, including the cutesy little logo at the top. The entire "stimulus" program has been a sham from the get-go, and most of that money that absolutely had to be printed at the time still hasn't been spent yet. I imagine that will be ramping up as we approach election season, so the Democrats can use it to buy votes. Well, I don't think too many Americans are buying that. By the way, I think I do know what part of this money was spent for:
Remember this photo of a "government fix" in the very same Federal Building? Well, the shipping tape has been removed, making this photo obsolete. There are still some nasty smears on the wall from where the adhesive was, so by no means is it completely repaired...but then again, would you expect any better?
I'd like to point out that Earl Pomeroy, Kent "Countrywide Mortgage" Conrad, and Byron "Skybox" Dorgan all voted for this stuff and think it's pretty keen. Remember that each and every November until they're all three civilians.
For you "birthers" out there, you might get a kick out of the fact that this sign was made using a commercial font called "Kenyan Coffee." Maybe someone out there has a sense of humor about this tragedy...

If you paid attention during the 2008 presidential campaign, you likely heard candidate Barack Obama foretell that he would bankrupt the coal industry, and that under his energy policies "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."
For decades now, North Dakotans have been duped into thinking that we need to continue to send Byron "Skybox" Dorgan, Kent "Countrywide" Conrad, and Earl "The Pearl" Pomeroy to Washington on our behalf, because they've accumulated so much seniority and clout. They've grown very bold and comfortable in this role, scaring North Dakotans into repeatedly sending them back to office and doling out federal dollars when they return. They warn that any replacement would have to start from square one, wielding no effective influence on behalf of North Dakota and the interests of our state. So...what have we gotten for that? Zero. Well, unless you count the government health care takeover...
Now on his way out the door, and employing a "scorched earth" policy toward his country and the North Dakotans who enabled him, Senator Dorgan has these foreboding words for our nation's energy industry:
North Dakota's economy has remained robust during the national recession for a few different reasons, one of which is the solid energy industry. The policies of these liberal Democrats will decimate that. We don't have the next election to use as an incentive to bring Byron Dorgan back to earth...what about his cohorts? I don't think they're any more interested in North Dakota's economic future than he is. Once their re-election chances are sealed one way or the other, can we expect such candor from Conrad and Pomeroy?
UPDATE: This story from KFYR TV news shows that Byron Dorgan and his hairpiece are completely detached from reality. He's pushing legislation to push people toward electric cars, while simultaneously trying to strangle the industry which generates much of the electricity that would be used to charge them. He also ignores the load that charging a bunch of these magic vehicles would put on an already strained electric grid.
That's why I've always considered liberal/progressive/Democrat policies as suicidal. He's attacking us from both sides: making energy production more expensive and difficult, while forcing us into a corner with his pie-in-the-sky electric vehicles (which ought to be FANTASTIC in a North Dakota winter). Senator Dorgan is long overdue for replacement, as are his like-minded comrades in Washington.

I suppose it's appropriate to have a whopper like this near the offices of professionals like Earl Pomeroy, Byron Dorgan, and Kent Conrad. This billboard is part of an orchestrated campaign to fool people into supporting "The American Power Act" - by not letting you know that it's a repackaging of the Kerry-Lieberman "Cap & Trade" act, designed to decimate our nation's energy industry. Energy...say, isn't energy a very significant part of North Dakota's economy?
Not only is this bill a total disaster for North Dakota and the nation at large, but it has another few interesting flaws:
The "Renewable Energy World" website, which is vested in the sorts of "green energy technology" bandied about by liberals bent on killing the energy industry, has an article titled "American Power Act Contains Little Direct Support for Renewables."
The "World Climate Report" website, which purports to be "the Web's longest-running climate change blog", has an article posted which calls the American Power Act "climatologically meaningless." For instance, even if this bill worked like clockwork (which never happens), they might lower temperatures by a couple hundredths of a degree over the next hundred years!
The folks at American Thinker have an article posted which points out that the Act is merely "a sugar coated version of Cap and Trade."
Hey, guess what? It gets better! If you actually visit "PassTheAmericanPowerAct.com" you'll get the site above. Looks pretty conservative and jingoistic, doesn't it? The only thing it seems to be missing is a flattering photo of George W. Bush. There's only one problem: It's a sham.
That web address actually bounces you to the servers of DemocracyInAction.org, a liberal activist group that apparently hosts all kinds of different websites for "progressive" causes. Here's how they describe themselves:
"DemocracyInAction, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization itself, believes technology can be a decisive force for social change. We exist to empower those who share our values of ecological and social justice to advance the progressive agenda."
Operated by a company called Salsa Labs, and oriented around the same sort of "community organizing" as our hapless President. Here's a list of their clients, which includes a bunch of liberal nonprofits like Code Pink and a bunch of liberal Democrat political campaigns.
If I had the money, I'd simply rent the billboard next to it and put up something like this. It wouldn't take much, and it would help put some truth right next to the Big Lie that is trying to kill jobs and take control of more Americans' lives in the name of the Global

Keeping its tradition of expecting special treatment at the expense of others, the Downtown Business Association of Bismarck has put it out on the World Wide Web for everyone to see. Here's a quote from their Facebook page:
"The DBA is asking the city to PLEASE SEND SOMEONE TO CLEAN UP DOWNTOWN Bismarck! It has not been taken care of in months. Dawn and Kate cleaned 4th and Broadway this warm afternoon. We don't care where you get the help or money, just do it. The city "OWNS" the area and therefore should be taking care of it. With Urban Harvest starting, let's show everyone the great city center. Pass this along!"
That's really interesting. The City "owns" the boulevard and sidealks in front of my property, but I have yet to see someone come by and mow or maintain it for me. When someone throws trash on it, I don't see a city worker come by to pick it up. When the snow flies in the winter, I'm the one driving the snowblower around to clear my sidewalk, driveways, and those of my neighbors. This includes rental property that I own. That's fine; I'd rather take care of it myself...and I expect the rest of the property owners in Bismarck, including downtown businesses, to abide by the same standard! Is that so wrong?
If the DBA wants downtown Bismarck to be maintained, I respectfully submit that they look in the mirror. The property owners are responsible for the sidewalks and boulevards in front of their property. Isn't it enough that the costs of beautification efforts for the downtown area have been spread out among all Bismarck citizens? If the businesses downtown don't have the time to maintain the sidewalks adjoining their property, it's time to hire someone to do so.
This comes from an organization that told the Boy Scouts and other charitable organizations that they couldn't sell beverages with concessions at the annual street fair. When the no-beverages policy first started, I heard from Boy Scout parents who were floored and feared how that would impact their fundraising efforts for the Scouts.
So, after taking money from the Scouts and other non-profits, the Downtowners want the violins of sympathy to start playing for them because we taxpayers aren't paying to have someone clean their sidewalks for them? Are they serious? I guess we'll see. I think it takes a serious lapse in judgement to even suggest such a thing. In any case, I think they may have a hard time getting people to sympathize with them.
Here's one for you, Downtowners: the next time I see a City employee cleaning or maintaining my sidewalks or boulevards, I'll ask them to take a trip downtown and perform the maintenance downtown Bismarck businesses are apparently unwilling to do...or think they're entitled to have someone else do for them for free.
